About the Author
Best known for his series of photographic monographs on the nude male, Paul Freeman's nude portraits of sports stars, Olympians and actors appeared between 1995 and 2005 in Studio Magazines' '(not only) Black And White', '(not only) Sport' and 'Blue', and in their books The Sydney Dream (2000), 'The Athen's Dream' (2004), and 'Sportbook' (2003)
In 1996 Paul wrote the best-selling biography of footballer Ian Roberts, ('Ian Roberts: Finding Out', Random House 1997).
His first monograph,  'Bondi Classic', was published to critical acclaim in 2003, and was followed by 'Bondi Urban' (2005), 'Bondi Work' (2006) and 'Bondi Road' (2007). This best-selling series, which takes its' name from Sydney's most iconic suburban beach, observes the contemporary young Australian urban male at home, at work and at play.
Equally successful has been Paul's Outback series, which uses the Australian bush and its' changing moods to explore Paul's male aesthetic, and to style and weather his subjects, varying thematic focus in  each of 'Outback' ( 2008) ,' Outback Currawong Creek' (2009) , 'Outback Brumby' (2010), and 'Outback Bushmen' (2012).' Outback Dusk' has just been released.
His 2011 and 2013 books 'Heroics' and' Heroics II' are an exploration of the neo-classic nude male  referencing sculpture and painting in Western European art, and even surrealist film interpretations. This work comments on attitudes to the naked male in public and art by juxtaposing our collective artistic heritage with contemporary reality and male physiques.

Simply the best.

There's little much I can add here on this latest masterpiece. The book is perfect and a wonderful addition to the Outback series. Mr. Freeman captures male nudity in the most beautiful sense. Natural, rugged, and athletic builds--approximately 190 pages; nothing manicured which can be so easily found without nothing special in almost all of the other books on male nudity. Mr. Freeman is a true artist who captures the male body in total perfection.

Kuddos for Mr. Freeman's Outback Dusk - Another Great One

Outback Dusk is a masterpiece of the male nude in photography. Paul Freeman can take the ruggedness of the outback terrain and match it with the perfect rugged model, or soften it by using a not so rugged model, either way it works . He is a master of shadowing and positive and negative space when posing his models. There is a perfect quietness to his photographs that can be both calming on one hand, soothing and warm on the other, with just a hint of sexual tension what some call "warm of may" a sexy innocence.

His pictures in this book and his other Bondi and Outback books are almost candid in their composition. Which to me is the greatest talent a photographer can have. In his Heroics books the models are posed to resemble the classical style of art, in composition, shadow play and the negative spacing of the models figures in their poses is impeccable.

I have to admit he is the best. I have been quite inspired by his work ...

I have just received Photographer Paul Freeman's newest autographed book Outback Dusk.
There are few photographers who truly capture men and the male nude the way he does. I have to admit he is the best. I have been quite inspired by his work in my own work. Though I haven't done any nudes in my work just yet, I do however see, and feel, the artistry he puts into his work: light, shadow, model, lens and the print of his visual works.
I look at my own photographic work in a much different light since I have begun studying Mr. Freeman's photographs. When looking at his work, Freeman captures an honest beauty where men can be men in the world through their ruggedness, at times each other, their independence, silence, at play, nature, their honesty, a bond of friendship and most importantly of love between one another. It's men in all their beauty. The photographs represent the beauty of being a man in the world, gay or otherwise.
For me, his images represent those qualities I love most about being a man, a gay man for that matter.
Outback Dusk is a beautiful artistic monolith of Freeman's talent as a photographer.
Dusk is a great edition to the collection of the Outback series.

One of my favorite books and one of my favorite professors

I first encountered this book when taking a class about death and dying at San Jose State University taught by Dr. Kramer. The book and the class truly changed my life in that simply by exposing me to the wide variety of death philosophies, they allowed me to contemplate and challenge the religious ideas and views of death that I had blindly followed my whole life. An excellent resource for anyone studying religion or seeking a new dimension to their personal spirituality.

A good start, but...

I'm really quite torn when it comes to making a judgment about this book because I feel that anything critical I have to say about it needs to be highly qualified in reference to this book's strengths. I had better start with the strengths then.

This is the premier, affordable, death and dying textbook. To the best of my knowledge you will not be able to find a survey of world religion's views of death and dying for under $15. This is really an accomplishment that deserves no small amount of credit and one that you have to acknowledge. If you are looking for a good place to start on this topic, here it is.

However, I have some concerns with this book that need to be mentioned. The first issue is that at times it is exceedingly evident that the author is no, by far, an expert in every religious sub-discipline. Honestly, it would be a monumental accomplishment to pull off that degree of authenticity in a single-author survey of any sort, especially when covering a field as diverse as "religion." Nonetheless, the author doesn't deliver in a few chapters, such as the Judaism and Greek chapters. To further explain, such chapters do not appear to be very well organized. This is both in the sense of organization and assembling material. For example, the organization leaves much to be desired in the Hinduism chapter. In my opinion, some core philosophy, which is brought up later on, needs to be moved to the front to better frame the elucidation of death. I feel that more immediate personal and social issues are addressed with the philosophy pushed to the periphery, but due to Hinduism's nature, I do not think this is a very good approach. Concerning the assembly of material, some chapters seem loosely tacked together, such as the Judaism chapter. It is as if the author found four or five references to death and dying and made them the key points of the chapter. But, seemingly little care is spent explaining how the ideas link up with each other. At times, the cracks between the pieces are glaring. But again, in this case, I must give the author credit as Judaism has a VERY ill-defined view on death, so any attempt at breadth will ultimately appear eclectic. In both cases, it is made quite evident that the author is far from an expert in all fields of religion, which tends to make this book appear a little superficial and may frustrate the reader.

The only other book I would consider on this topic is Bregman's anthology, "Death and Dying in World Religions," but its weaknesses are Kramer's strength. For example, as the Bregman book is an anthology, its tones, perspectives and writing styles vary quite a bit whereas Kramer is very consistent. Also, some authors in the Bregman book make assumptions about the reader's degree of exposure to the religion at hand, whereas Kramer is rather thorough with filling in of background information.

One last complaint of mine is the use of pictures in Kramer. They seem quite out of place and oftentimes either garish or childish. Two that stick out for me are full page smiling Buddha and Abraham with Isaac. Why these were chosen or found appropriate for a textbook is beyond me.

I hope that I have presented my concerns clearly enough and also demonstrated my respect for Kramer to a sufficient degree. This book, without question, is a good (if not the best) place to start if you are curious about how various religions address death, but you may want to look at an additional source (Bregman?) for more balance and continuity.

An excellent overview of the matter

Kramer gives us an excellent and well-researched view of how some of the world's main religions view death. I was impressed with the integrity and fair evaluation of each faith. There is no apparent leaning to one belief system or another. And Kramer effectively hits the main areas of the belief systems concerning prayer as well.

It might be good to see more indigenous representations (i.e., African). Kramer talks about Hindi, Buddhist, Zen, Tibetan, Chinese, Mesopotamian and Egyptian, Greek, Hebraic, Christian, Islamic, and American Indian views. A very useful reference for beginning studies of religion, death, anthropology, and other such disciplines.

Great overview of applied math

The book covers basic college level math concepts as they apply to geology, including statistics. It has problems to work with answers, as well as spreadsheet exercises. When I took geology in college it was primarily descriptive. Now with technology, it is much more quantitative. This book bridges the gap.

Good book, lots of tips

I'm a homeowner who is getting ready to re-wire a home. I have the 4th edition of this book and decided to get the updated 5th addition since it includes updates for the 2014 NEC code cycle, which my area has adopted (I still have to look up the local amendments).

This is a good book for a homeowner who is going to be wiring/re-wiring a house, or someone who is learning about electrical installations. It is not a substitution for knowing the NEC or hiring a qualified electrician, but is a good reference. There are other books that I have to supplement this resource, such as a copy of the NEC, the Black and Decker "Complete guide to wiring" as well as some older reference materials. This book by far has a lot of good tips, tricks, and experience packed in that the other books do not contain.

Couple notes:
(- 1/2 star) One of the key points in chapter 6 is a note about shop tools and freezers not being permitted to be in front of GFCI receptacles, but there is no elaboration on this bullet point in this chapter, nor in the GFCI Chapter.

Also the stocking up section would be much better if he used total footage for the supplies rather than the number of rolls (since 1000' rolls of 12/2 and 14/2 wire are sold). Maybe a note about using these 1000' spools in comparison to the 250' rolls would be helpful too.

(- 1/2 star) With expanded use of AFCI in the 2014 NEC, some areas of the home (specifically the Kitchen) require both AFCI and GFCI protection, and there are no tips, sage advice, or strategies outlined on this topic, which is disappointing given that there is so much other good, useful and handy tips he provides. Perhaps due to the lack of actual installations that he has 1st hand experience with.

Overall:
I do recommend this to anyone involved with building, remodeling, or retrofitting a home's wiring system. The technical information you can find in most how-to books, like the Black and Decker book, or the Wiring 1-2-3 book from home depot. This book really shines when it comes to the knowledge, tips, and tricks that Rex shares as part of his experience from being an electrician. It also has a comprehensive chapter on Grounding, which is more detailed than any other book I've seen to date.

Nice Overview of Wiring A Well Pump, Main and Sub Panels, Etc.

My wife and I built our house this past year, plumbed it, and then wired it entirely using this book. We did every bit of the wiring, from laying the buried line to the house, wiring the well pump, wiring first a temporary service panel then our main panel, and wiring up all the receptacles, lights, smoke alarms, and appliances in the house.

And here's the important part: we passed all of our electrical inspections with flying colors.

Note that Rex Caultwell also has a plumbing book, and in my opinion both are invaluable books. The thing that amazes me is that a regular person with very little wiring experience can actually wire an entire house -- as we did! -- following the careful instructions of such a book. We tend to think that experts are required for such tasks. That's just not the case if you read up on a topic and really apply yourself.

This book changed my life, in a very real sense, in that I'm now confident that I can wire just about anything. It's that good of a book.

I would suggest reading this book cover-to-cover, and then supplementing that with perusal of a few more books. I say this because it's impossible to learn something as complex and involved as wiring from just one book.

Wiring a House: 5th Edition is Well Written and Remarkably Useful.

I have many years of DIY electrical remodeling and repair experience, but have never wired a new home. I bought this book to help me prepare to wire a new home we are building, including compliance with the new AFCI requirements. It is intuitively organized and employs crisp, plain language. It is apparent to me that the author's claim at p. 6 of his Introduction is true: "It is a book written by an electrician who has been there, got his hands dirty, and done the work." Cauldwell is also a clear thinker and writer, who included in this book the thorough instruction I was hoping to obtain. I give it 5 stars without reservation.

About the Author
Bob Wood received a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from University of Colorado in 1949, a Ph.D. in Physics from Cornell in 1953, worked for General Electric Aeronautics and Ordnance, served in the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground for two years, and then completed 43 years with Douglas Aircraft and its successors. A long-time Director of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), a Councilor for the Society for Scientific Exploration, and member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics since 1947, he has garnered a reputation for integrity and scholarship in this field over the last two decades. His aerospace career included the thermodynamics of keeping missiles cool; managing and selling the independent research and development projects of a couple of dozen scientists and engineers; designing radars to discriminate between Soviet ballistic missiles and their decoys; applying advanced technology to make the Space Station cheaper, better, and sooner; and finally helping to sell the Delta launch vehicle as the workhorse for NASA orbital payloads. In the late 1960s, he ran a proprietary project to try to discover how UFOs “worked,” and has been studying the UFO topic ever since. Upon retirement, he became involved in the forensics of authenticating questioned “leaked” UFO documents, collaborating occasionally with his colleague and son Ryan (author of MAJIC – Eyes Only). He recognized the excellence of Nick Redfern’s attention to high standards and asked him to provide his international reports concerning aliens and viruses.

Fascinating page-turner

Bob Wood is part of the father-and-son team devoted to analyzing the purported "MJ-12" documents that have been fed to UFO researchers since the early '80s. This book gives a good overview to that material, while focusing on one overarching topic of interest: biowarfare and the threat of a potentially species-killing virus. Wood and his ghost-writer Nick Redfern tackle the subject from all angles: references in the MJ-12 documents, testimony from military and intelligence sources, and the mainstream historical and scientific record. What crops up over and over again are links between alleged MJ-12-connected individuals, research into biological warfare, astrobiology, and connections to alleged UFO crash/recoveries.

Wood and Redfern look at several documents from the Timothy Cooper collection, tackle the problem of document authentication, highlight several individual crash incidents, the cattle mutilation phenomenon, and the mysterious deaths of dozens of microbiologists and experts in biowarfare in the early 2000s. While I don't necessarily agree with all of the authors' conclusions (e.g., the overall authenticity of the documents, Redfern's ideas on Roswell, or the idea that cattle mutilations are essentially biowarfare experiments), most conclusions are stated more as tentative working hypotheses than as pet theories. The main virtue of the book, in my opinion, is the sheer collection of data: names, places, connections. And I have to hand it to Nick Redfern. I did not like his style in his Men In Black book, but his prose here is more journalistic, to-the-point, and it makes for an informative and page-turning read.

While the material is controversial, the sheer number of connections inclines me to think that there is something real here. Whether the real danger is from space-borne pathogens (e.g., brought to earth via comets or asteroids), so-called alien viruses found on the alleged bodies of UFO inhabitants, or engineered biowarfare agents (the source of which may or may not have something to do with the other options), the intel community has been keeping tabs on it since at least World War II. Any of the three scenarios is scary enough. Despite its scary subject matter, Alien Viruses (****1/4) is damn fun to read.

Good Read

Interesting premise, I would suggest that this book is more suitable for someone who has a strong background in this subject. Unlike books like Above Top secret, or Alien agenda, that give a history of the UFO topic, this book is an interesting addendum for someone familiar with the MJ-12 controversy and the history of sightings, mutilations, etc., over the last 70 odd years.

An immensely important book!

This is one of the most tremendously significant works ever published in the field of UFO studies, which has a huge literature. I have been involved myself for many years in this field, and have increasingly come to think that the (micro-)biological aspects of this whole question have too long been under-represented or even ignored. (I have been pointing out, for example, that the Roswell bodies must certainly have been DNA-harvested and gene-sequenced by now.) The issue of micro-organisms from off the earth is one that up to now has entered very little into discussions of matters like the UFO crash and retrieval of non-terrestrial bodies at Roswell, New Mexico (July 1947). Our immune systems evolve, and organisms from outside the system in which they evolved must for safety's sake be assumed to have a potentially great impact on the health-states of humans and other terrestrial organisms. The manner in which this volume explores that huge issue is a pleasure to behold. This centrally important volume belongs on everyone's shelf.

I think everybody knows how to play poker.They just don't know how to do it well.That's how I am.You get instructions on the different types of hands poker has and which suit beats other combinations. You will learn the strategy of playing different card combinations.Anther thing that it teaches you is how to learn to spot when other players are bluffing.Each person has different "tells" and if you don't know them you will lose alot.You will also learn the art of how to bluff,which will I crease you chances of winning. There's a lot of them that I sure wouldn't have recognized before I read this book.another strategy to know is when to fold a hand.And the rewards and consequences of not putting down a hand.The book explains t that some good hands need to be folded( once again, that's me,I hate to fold I need) and how to tell which ones.And the most important thing to know,to me at least is how to bet.Without knowing that there's no point in learning everything else.The book breaks down how much to bet on what hand.I was surprised at how easy it was to learn from this book. Whether you are a first time player or have been at it a long time; you will be educated on the ins and out a of the fame.I had no trouble understanding this book and you shouldn't either.I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review

Don't be trick by those bluffs. Master the Game!

I don't gamble nor most of my friends but whenever we get together all of my friends know how to play poker except me. They would play with poker the whole night while I become somewhat of their hostess preparing their foods and drinks; making sure everything is alright. I made a conviction to myself that I would learn poker and beat all my friends. So I started studying the game, reading books and watching actual games then playing starting with amateurs to more experience players. My learning curve has been excellent I should say. Thanks on a big part to this book. Everything you need to learn about Poker is in this book but of course you still need actual practice to really master this skill. As the saying goes if you are prepared you already won half the battle; this is what this book will do for you, it will prepare. It will not let you get off-guard or surprise by the tricks of your opponent. Your every hand is calculated and base on tested strategy by master poker players.

My rich friend was a casino addict or better say poker addict. I accompanied her once and while all of them are enjoying I'm trying really hard to understand their terms but I can't really get it. My being out of place at that time pushed me to buy this book.

I began reading the middle part for terminologies and the author did a good job not just on defining each but giving sample sentences as well. For the strategies and bluffs, though I still don't play poker, I can say they are effective and my friend agreed to me as well. She actually read the whole book on my reader and finished it with a burning spirit to win. Well base on how helpful it is to me I'm happy to give this rating.
