Robert W. MacCormack is Professor Emeritus of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University. He previously taught at the University of Washington and was Senior Staff Scientist at the NASA Ames Research Center. He is the recipient of the ICASE/NASA Langley Research Center Theodorsen Lectureship Award, the AIAA Fluid Dynamics Award and the NASA Medal for Exceptional Scientific Achievement. About the Author

Helpful and Hopeful

Forever Painless may in fact be the resource I’ve been looking for. Up until this point I haven’t been able to find any form of exercise that my body could tolerate consistently. This book gives me hope!

In Part One, Esmonde-White explains the ins and outs of chronic pain and why her approach makes sense. Though she is clearly very knowledgeable on this subject, her writing style makes the information accessible – and really interesting – even for the most medically novice.

The second part of the book is divided into exercises, including a basic warm-up and workouts that target certain areas or causes of pain. The exercises are described with easy-to-follow instructions as well as pictures for those of us that need both in order to figure out what the heck we’re supposed to be doing. (Coordinated I am not) I zeroed in on the Connective Tissue workout and the Immune System workout… but what really impacted me was the question she asks and answers – How can I stretch while I’m in pain? This is something I have asked more than one of my doctors, including my rheumatologist and my neurologist, without getting any helpful answers. I practically have that little section of the book memorized now!

There are many great things about Forever Painless, especially for those of us who have been seeking a resource like this for a while. The information is engaging and easy to understand, and the exercises are doable and well-described. Perhaps the best thing about Forever Painless though is that Miranda Esmonde-White leaves the reader – the person who is weary of pain – with the hope that there IS hope. That we don’t have to simply “manage” our pain, but that complete relief is entirely possible. (At the same time, she is also realistic with some conditions for which a cure from pain may not be achieved.) I am looking forward to incorporating her workouts into my daily routine and becoming less sedentary.

About the Author

Dariush Derakhshani is an award-winning visual effects supervisor, author, and educator whose work has appeared in The Fantastic Four, Pan's Labyrinth, the South Park TV series, and countless commercials and music videos. An Autodesk Certified Instructor, he teaches 3D animation and is the author of previous editions of Introducing Maya. Dariush is coauthor of the Autodesk 3ds Max series of books.

Great guide to Autodesk Maya! My only thought - a Glossary in back would be very handy. I'm new to 3D work, and would've liked a "quick reference" to the many unfamiliar terms and expressions.

A mixed bag

Initially when this book came out, there were no project files on the book's website, which was very confusing.

Following the instructions step by step is tedious and having to continually go between book and project makes for slow going.

No coverage of important issues like linear color workflow.

A lot of emphasis on tedious, labor-intensive polygonal modeling.

It has coverage of pretty much every major topic of CG, though, so when supplemented with further resources, it's helpful.

About the Author

Stan Gibilisco has authored or coauthored more than 50 books on physics, electronics, mathematics, and computing. He began his career as a radio-frequency design engineer, a technical writer, a magazine editor, and a wireless broadcast technician. The American Library Association named Stan’s McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Personal Computing (1995) as one of the “Best References of 1996.” In addition to authoring several books in McGraw-Hill’s Demystified series of home study guides, he has also written three books in the Know-It-All series for students who enjoy mathematics. Gibilisco’s Teach Yourself Electricity and Electronics has become a classic in the field.

How many authors take the time to make a comprehensive video series that presents and supports their entire book? Stan Gibilisco does just that with the third edition of Beginning Guide to Reading Schematics. Both the book and video series start with an explanation of what is involved in understanding electronic schematics. Block diagrams, component symbols, simple circuits, and complex circuits are all chapter titles. Each of these subjects is dealt with in an easy to read (and view) format. I have read the previous versions of this book and Stan has rewritten many sections, redrawn all the schematics, and included a new section that explains how each circuit works. Combining reading with viewing the YouTube videos will give a beginner as well as an "old hand" a new understanding and appreciation for electronics! I built the test board in the "Let's learn by doing" chapter and completed all the experiments. I found this great fun and recommend that all readers try them. Yes, there are nice videos supporting this section of the book too! All in all a great book and video series that I give five stars! Well done Stan!!

Stan Gibilisco's Beginner's Guide to Reading Schematics, Third Edition, goes way beyond what one would expect in a book of this title. The spring binding makes it easy to use on your work bench just as Stan's lucid writing and clear graphics make it incredibly useful for the serious student or experimenter on any level. The book starts out by defining what is meant by schematic representation and then goes on to present and discuss increasingly complex electronic circuitry, always explaining it in simple terms that the novice can easily understand yet are useful to the more advanced technician as well. I highly recommend this book for all electronics students who want to broaden their perspective without getting lost in the details. Stan has written many books on the subjects of electronics and mathematics (most published by McGraw-Hill) and the ones I have read have been immensely helpful.

Very clear and well written, but lacks the content I would expect from an $18 book.

I read the whole book and it's great! I mean, I've read mostly Navy Avionics schematics and a few schematics for components I've dealt with in flight simulation. So, my reading level is kind of limited. That's why I bought this book.

The reviews of the previous Beginner's Guide to Reading Schematics were great. So, I was expecting big things. What I found was that the 3rd edition does a phenomenal job of explaining how to look at schematics. Gibilisco compares a schematic to a map and by using that analogy he really pulls together an understanding of how to generally follow a schematic. That's my favorite part of this book. It's also a great reference for illustrated components you might find common to most schematics. But the book doesn't go into detail of how to understand the functionality of components through reading a schematic. Toward the end of the book you are given an opportunity for hands on applications that I'm sure help better understand schematics. I didn't do these but I could tell by looking at the exercises and the required hardware that they were limited in scope. One day I will spend the money and do the exercises but no matter, I will still be missing a large portion of understanding that was hoping to get from this book.

Patrick Winsor writes in the gay romance and erotica genre. He believes in deep, intricate relationships and not fading to black when the scenes start to get hot. He draws inspiration from his personal experiences and fantasies as well as those others have shared with him. Growing up on a farm in the middle of nowhere, Patrick Winsor had little contact with other homosexuals. He spent his high school days exploring relationships with women while developing a bromance with his straight best friend. It would take him until his senior year, four years from the start of that bond, to come out to himself as being possibly bisexual or gay. During this period of his life, his only connection to the gay world was through chat sites. Even with limited access to a world outside of his own, this connection afforded him a safe façade where he was able to virtually explore his sexuality and develop an active imagination full of hot fantasies. It would take a couple of straight relationships and a world walkabout in college to truly find himself and start experimenting with other gay and curious men. During his college “awakening” phase, he developed a close group of both friends, lovers, and “buddies” that allowed him to explore some of his more vanilla, but often anonymous and polyamorous fantasies. It didn’t take him long to become an out-and-proud gay man. After college, he moved directly to the heart of the Castro in San Francisco. With access to such a broad range of sexual and romantic partners, he fully developed his try–just–about–anything-once sexual appetite while also being exposed to the fantasies of the dark and twisted minds of several of his acquaintances. Eventually he found his truelove, abandoned his active polyamorous lifestyle, and married the man of his dreams. This was not my cup 'o tea

I have to admit that I have been struggling a bit with how to rate this. I enjoyed the blurb is something that is right up my alley: potential GFY, exploration of relationships, bromance. The seriocomic warning had me looking forward to a potentially fun book; I loved the way it was written. Unfortunately, I didn't love it and I found myself doing more cringing than blushing or laughing. The first sentence mentions "dark" sexual desires, this book is a bit more dark overall than I tend to prefer. There were definitely some erotic scenes in this book, but I found myself thinking "say wha?????????" rather than "wow that is hot".

Levi is just starting college, so I am guessing he is about 18. Young, but certainly not naive. He is a part of this brotherhood that is sounds like he has been a part of for a long time, so to think of what he was doing when he was underage just icks me out. Thankfully none of that was written on the page.

Jayden is Levi's roommate. He (in his mind) is straight and looking forward to losing his virginity to some hot girl he meets on campus. He is young and very naive. Without any previous inkling that he finds guys attractive, he all of a sudden finds Levi completely irresistible. They are having sex, bareback, and then involving 2 other guys in the shower within hours of meeting. And Levi was so "huge" and rough with no preparation so that it was painful. And Jayden had no problem with that as a virgin? I sat there saying OUCH. It was not sexy at all to me. And then they are saying I love you. After meeting just hours before. *shaking my head* And then to paraphrase: Levi says "come with me and join the family" and Jayden says "I have no clue what you are talking about, but anything for you because I love you". Yes, they are young. Young people do stupid things. But still. Ugh.

So we find out about Levi's "family" and there are more sexual activities that would make most people cringe. Yet Jayden is perfectly fine with all of it, even though he has no clue what he is fine with because he doesn't know what is going on. And the punishment that Levi gets?? Oh hell no. Nuh uh. Not even going to think about that again. I'm not a man, but I feel pain from that.

OK, so those were all personal thoughts about the content which didn't sit well with me. That is personal choice, and . For the actual book itself, it felt a bit rushed. Yes we got a whole "romance" (they meet, fall in love, and have challenges), yes it is not a really story (close to 100 pages), yet it all took place over maybe 3 days total? I don't understand anything about Levi and how/why he became a part of the family, or why Jayden is at college with only one bag and very few belongings, or what happens next. It didn't feel much like a romance book to me. It was more of an erotic story with a hit of possible romance.

It's probably more of a 2.5 star read for me, but of course there aren't half star ratings. So how do I rate it-do I round up or down? I can't say I really enjoyed it, but I can't say I hated it or that it was the worst thing I ever read.

Well written just didn't have IT for me

First, a quick apology for not completing the review in a timely manner...Sorry!

The book was written well and I enjoyed the story told. Honestly, there was something about the story that did not make it an awesome read. I have thought about it and still cannot come up with the reason my reading experience was not more than 3 stars.

The story started great and I was intrigued of where it would take me. It was a classic start college and discover yourself and fall in love and did have an unusual turn of events. The idea behind the group was great because it showed caring and safety within a community of sexually active young men. Maybe the picture it painted in my head threw the story out of focus for me. Even though I liked the idea behind this "family" of men and they respected the new loving relationship from the MCs, it felt like it cheapened their relationship. I would find my mind placing the relationship in the middle of just respected sex with the other family members. I really did get what [author:Patrick Winsor|14611951] was trying to portray but in my mind it messed with the flow. Like I said, I did enjoy the read and thank the author for giving us a story. The sexiness was at least a 7.5 and the characters were great. Don't ignore this book because it was not a raving review from my mindset; honestly, give it a go because it doesn't leave you questioning WTF did I just read.

Fun, quick read

The first part of the book was awesome! I liked the intro where we meet the two boys, and I wish there was more character development from there--Jayden seemed cool and mysterious, Levi was apparently very high-maintenance. What are their backgrounds, and how do they fit together? How do they get along? Anyway, they find out they are roommates, and Levi quickly develops a crush on Jayden. Jayden is seemingly straight. From here, it moves VERY quickly. Too quickly for my liking. Especially since Jayden is supposed to be coming to grips with the fact that he is gay... That doesn't seem like something you get through easily. Levi's mom was funny, although not quite believable (I guess moms like that exist, somewhere?)...

The second part of the book gets into the initiation into the Brotherhood. It was very intense, but I was okay with it. It made for an interesting story line, and also was a way of introducing secondary characters.

Overall, I thought the book was well written. I did get a bit confused at the end--it seemed like the names Jayden and Levi were switched in some places (like, it said "Jayden" but should have said "Levi"?). I would like to read more from this author!
