Perfectly eloquent approach to a complex subject!

Neprology is probably one of the most complex and "weakest" subject for residents and medical students. The authors and editor of this book have not only made the subject palatable, but enjoyable. Beginning with a historical approach, was a fantastic idea; it set the perfect stage to illustrate and explain the anatomy, the physiology, the pathophysiology and finally the treatments of renal function and dysfunction.
Moreover, the book does a fine job of explaining acid base disorders, electrolyte disorders, and other renal diseases as they relate to nephrology; as well as their relationship to other subspecialties, such as pulmonology, cardiology and endocrinology for example.
Simply said, the book is a wonderful example of applying creative writing skills to describe a technical subject. The result is an enjoyable, easily readable, thorough explanation of renal function and disease that is written at a perfect level for medical residents, (or anyone else for that matter).

Excellent Resource

This book is the perfect resource for addressing both the gritty physiology, as well as the practical-clinical approach of fluid and electrolytes. I used it mainly to review, at the most basic level, the science behind much routine clinical management, as well as thinking through differential diagnoses and treatments of a variety of electrolyte abnormalities.

thoughtful and sound new edition

this is a very thoughtful book, provided to me when I was in medical school... but an earlier edition. I like the targeted sections, the specific evaluation of edema and its renal consequences.. I might have preferred a better rendering of the various measures for protein loss, and or methods to carefully consider renal function in heart failure...However, some data on these topics is provided, and I am happy to get the clear messages....
